In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. Ephesians 1:11-12 NIV
There are a lot of cute sayings about adopting a pet. One is “Adopt don’t shop.” Shelters encourage you to give animals a second chance at family life. One posted a photo of a dog who had finally been selected by a couple after over 2,000 days in the shelter.
Even if we go to our local rescue, we shop around for the perfect pet. It has to be a match made in heaven between you and your furry companion. We seek until our heart is engaged and we just know we’ve found the one.
Sometimes the pets choose us. While all the dogs are playing, here comes a pup that wants to crawl up in our lap and looks at us with big puppy dog eyes. Danni put her paw up on the cage as I walked by and I took her paw and looked into her eyes and that was it. Each love story is unique and how you choose your pet is special.
Jesus has chosen you. He came to earth to adopt you as his child. When we ask him to be our Lord and Savior we become part of God’s family. Galatians 4:4-5 states, “But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.” I Peter 2:9 tells us that we are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession that we may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
As adopted children of God, we can look to our Father for forgiveness, healing, restoration and courage to live each day boldly. We can crawl into his lap trusting that he’s that special one who will love us forever. He came to find us because he loves us and wants to take us home. He is our provider, our friend and our father. We have been selected by the great I AM. We have been adopted and are his chosen ones.
The bible verses tell us that after the adoption we are to declare the praises of him who called us out of darkness into his wonderful light. Meditate on God’s greatness and tell of his goodness to all who will listen. Adopt don’t shop.
