COMPARISONS

LORD, who may dwell in your sacred tent?  Who may live on your holy mountain?           Psalm 15:1 NIV

We compare our dogs on everything.  Purebred or mutt?  We categorize them by color, ability, weight and breed.  Are they hunters?  Do they retrieve?  Some are good swimmers and some serve only as our couch potato companions.

Like people, dogs have different talents, abilities and personalities.  Nothing is right or wrong, just different in their individual way.

Comparisons are usually not a good thing.  Depending on who you are comparing yourself to determines whether you come out on top or find yourself at the bottom of the barrel.  A comparison of God and Satan finds many opposites.  Light and darkness, good and evil, right and wrong and leaves you uplifted or downcast.

When reading scripture, it doesn’t take too long to come across verses telling us that God will set your feet upon the rock (Psalm 27:5, Psalm 40:2).  Psalm 2:6 states, “Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.”  God dwells above.  He is the lifter up of my head.  Psalm 68:15-16 tells us, “The hill of God is as the hill of Bashan; a high hill as the hill of Bashan.  Why leap ye, ye high hills?  This is the hill which God desireth to dwell in; yea, the LORD will dwell in it forever.”  Your spirit soars when reading of the exalted Christ.  Jesus uplifts.

Satan, on the other hand, is a bummer.  Pits and destruction follow him wherever he goes.  Negativity, condemnation, sin and temptation are his buzz words.  Our souls are downcast and depression lurks when reading of demonic doings.  Revelation 20:10 says, “And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown.  They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.”  We are told that he dwells in miry clay, the realm of the dead and the depths of the pit.  Yuk!

We research our dogs to find out which ones are kid friendly or apartment dwellers and choose the one that best fits our lifestyle.  We test drive cars and investigate what products enhance our lives before purchasing.  Dig into your bible today and research the pros and cons of scripture.  I think you will find everything you need with God under the Pros and Satan as the only Con.
