The LORD says to my lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.” Psalm 110:1 NIV
We had a coffee table that Seneca loved to sleep under. If she wasn’t under it, she was on top of it taking a nap. Usually, the dogs used it as a stepping stone to get off of the couch quickly. Other times, the coffee table was used as a bone or a chew toy. It was made of wood and rose marble and discarded with the trash.
My coffee table was replaced by a footstool that could also be used for storage. It is constantly being moved to use as a dinner tray but it has escaped being destroyed by the dogs. Apart from frequently being littered with dog hairs, the footstool is still in tact. The couch hasn’t faired so well but the footstool is serving its desired purpose in our home. It is under our feet.
Ephesians 1:20 and 22-23 states, “He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at his right hand…And God placed all things under His feet and appointed Him to be head over everything for the church, which is His body. In bible times, enemies were defeated and brought to the king in chains. The king placed his feet on them as a sign of victory. God promised Jesus that his enemies would be his footstool as he sat on the right hand of his father’s throne. I Corinthians 15:25-28 tells us, “For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. For he ‘has put everything under his feet.’ Now when it says ‘everything’ has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ. When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all.”
Footstools are used to rest your feet when you are seated. The bible tells us that we have been raised with Christ and are seated with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:6). I John 2:13 and I John 4:4 tells us that we are overcomers. Our enemies are placed under our feet as we overcome sin, temptation and the father of lies himself, Satan. I John 4:4 also tells us that we are overcomers because God in us is greater than Satan, who is in the world.
Whatever enemies you face today are defeated by Christ in you. You are an overcomer. You have won the victory. You are seated in heavenly places with your Savior and King. You are God’s property and Satan must take his hands off you. Take authority today. Satan is your footstool and he is serving the desired purpose in your life. He is under your feet!
