He who planted the ear, does He not hear? He who formed the eye, does He not see? Psalm 94:9 ESV
Duke was shaking his head. It was obvious that he was having problems with his ear, so the veterinarian was contacted.
Duke waited his turn and was diagnosed with an ear infection after swabbing and cleaning the ear. There were two choices for treatment. You could do the old-fashioned drops in the ear twice a day or the new innovative treatment. A device is placed in Duke’s ear and the medication is automatically dispensed as needed. It cost a little bit more but, oh, the convenience. It is wonderful knowing the medication is not missing the mark.
Our verse today tells us that God made our ears and he hears us. Proverbs 20:12 says, “The hearing ear and the seeing eye, the Lord has made both of them”. God has formed us in His image. He made our ears to hear and if they are not functioning properly, we shake our head like Duke. Hopefully, we will notice the symptoms and run to God for treatment. He will diagnose the problem and set us on the road to recovery if we trust in his expertise.
God’s cure for our clogged hearing can come with options just like Duke’s. The old-fashioned treatments are tried and true and guaranteed to work. We can wait before the Lord in prayer and bible study till he reveals himself to us. This medication needs to be applied on a regular basis and continued even after healing has occurred to keep your ears open and alert.
God offers innovative ways of restoring your hearing. When we least expect it, He will use someone or something to get our attention focused on him. As we listen, he dispenses healing words of wisdom and comfort. He never misses his mark and healing occurs naturally and conveniently.
We must never take our hearing for granted. We don’t want to end up shaking our head in despair, wondering why that still, small voice is almost inaudible. Christ’s body must be healthy with all its parts in excellent condition. It is the only way to move forward with the gospel of Christ.
John 10:27 states, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me.” Let’s make sure we are hearing our Lord so that we may follow him wherever he leads.
