I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts. Psalm 119:45 NIV
There was an urgent face book post about Matt, a lowrider dog, who got out of the yard and his owner was requesting help looking for him. The fence had been cut and Matt nonchalantly walked out of the yard and down the road to freedom. Matt was found within minutes enjoying a leisurely walk along the road. He experienced freedom and came home safely.
Sometimes our freedom walks end quite differently. We are out enjoying the scenery and don’t even know we are walking beside a dangerous, busy highway. We skip along happily never realizing we are treading on thin ice. Thankfully, Matt had someone watching over him, never letting him wander too far away from home.
The psalmist is confident in his freedom because he has sought out the Lord’s precepts. Precepts are defined as a general rule intended to regulate behavior or thought. When we are seeking God and His ways, we set our thoughts on him and we can be confident. Confident that our behavior and thoughts are according to his will. Confident that we are free in Christ.
Job 1:10 states, “Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land.” Satan is found complaining to God that he has placed Job behind a hedge of His protection. He is itching to get permission to cut the fence on Job so that he wanders off down a busy highway without God’s protection. Satan gets what he wants and Job has to endure affliction from every direction yet he still trusts in God. In the end, Job is restored to health and once again experiences God’s freedom in every area of his life.
Do you walk in freedom with God? Whether you are hid behind a wall of God’s grace or you are walking through the fire with Jesus, be confident that God has your back. You are not alone. He is with you every step of the way. Whether you are safely in his fenced in back yard or if Satan has cut the fence and you are wandering down a busy freeway, you will never walk alone.
Seek God and his ways and you will walk about in freedom.
