Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:34 ESV
Seneca visited her daddy at the insurance agency. She wasn’t shy in greeting everyone who walked through the doors with her husky smile and a willingness to be petted. At one point, to receive more attention, she hopped up onto the desk for a more personal encounter.
I’m not sure if all insurance companies offer pet insurance but they do provide it for homes, automobiles, boats, motorcycles, jewelry and life insurance for those we hold near and dear. There are options and policies available for almost anything we consider valuable. Most of us would agree that our pets are an important addition to our families but not all of us purchase the insurance needed to help out with their veterinarian and final expenses.
Jesus wants us to be prepared. Matthew 24 tells us to be on the alert for we do not know when the Lord is returning. I Corinthians 16:13 states, “Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.” Our lamps are to be lit and we are to be ready and waiting. And yet we are told not to worry about tomorrow in our verse from Matthew 6. Many things are uncertain in life. We are to prepare and be ready but to trust that all is in God’s hands.
When we purchase insurance policies it is to be prepared. We do not expect to be in a car accident but we can relax knowing that no matter what happens, we are ready. When we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, we have prepared for the future. We now know that no matter what life brings our way, God is with us. We can confidently walk through the darkness as well as the light, knowing that we will spend eternity with God. Jesus has provided all we need. He has purchased us with His precious blood and there is no fine print that can separate us from His love and care.
When you have an insurance policy, you have the assurance that no matter what happens, that company has your back. As Christians, we have the assurance that we belong to God. I John 5:11-13 tells us, “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.” The Bible can be referenced in any and all situations. It is our manual for living.
The song Blessed Assurance tells us in the lyrics that Jesus is ours. We are heirs of salvation and purchased of God. We are born of his Spirit and washed in His blood. We are at rest, happy and blest while we watch and wait for Jesus. He has provided us with the best insurance available. There are no hidden clauses, no worries, and no deductibles.
If the eventualities of life are making you anxious, refer to your insurance manual. The Bible will reassure you that all is well and fill you with hope now and in the future.
