CLEAN AS A WHISTLE

“Come now, and let us reason together,” says the LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool”. Isaiah 1:18 NKJV

Last year, Burt was at the vet every two weeks for an ear check. He had been diagnosed with ear bacteria that would not go away. I had been cleaning his long hound ears on a regular basis but he still had dirty ears that needed a strict regime of medicine and cleaning. They were even considering referring us to a specialist.

So I waited anxiously for his test results at his yearly appointment last week. The doctor came in and pronounced that Burt’s ears were “as clean as a whistle”. Burt and I were both relieved even though I knew he would still need to have them cleaned every other day to maintain his healthy hound ears.

We all have a past that is crawling with sin and bacteria. We try to get ourselves and our lives cleaned up with recommended treatments and strict regimes but we definitely need referred to a specialist. When we seek out Jesus, he knows exactly what we need. He took care of our sin sickness by his death on the cross and when we present our lives to Him he pronounces us, “Clean as a whistle!”

In I John 1:9, we are told that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Jesus told Peter in John 13:10 that, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean”. Just like Burt needs to do a little cleaning maintenance on his ears, we need to keep our hearts and our minds clean daily by looking to Jesus. We don’t want to be spotted and stained by the world and its ways.

Accept the forgiveness Jesus offers and though our sins were like scarlet, he will wash them as white as snow. Seek him daily with all of your heart. He’s there to be found. He will keep us clean as a whistle!
