PASSED

Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge.  I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.  Psalm 57:1 NIV

I admit to standing behind cars with Danni when I see another dog coming on the opposite side of the street in the hopes that she won’t notice and go into her dog induced frenzy.  I wait and try to distract her as I gauge the progress of the dog.  As soon as that dog has finished sniffing and has walked on, we move out of our hiding place and continue our walk.  Danni is none the wiser and all have enjoyed their time outdoors.  The disaster has passed.

We’ve all heard the saying this too shall pass?  It doesn’t seem like it when we are in the midst of the turmoil but God is faithful.  Isaiah 43:2 states, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.  When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze”.  Jesus tells us in John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.  In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart!  I have overcome the world”.

Jesus himself experienced the good and the bad in his lifetime.  Many have memorized the verse in John 11:35 that tells us Jesus wept.  His good friend had died.  He went through persecution.  He was betrayed by friends.  He was talked about and slandered.  Through it all he held on to his Father and it passed.  He experienced pain and death.  Again, it passed and turned into a bright resurrection day!

Are you in the midst of a dark period in your life?  Take refuge in the God who hides you under his wings of protection.  The disaster will pass and you too will have a bright resurrection morning!
